    Jefferson County mayor pleads guilty to DUI after 2023 arrest

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Jefferson County Mayor Mark Potts pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after his arrest a year ago in Bradley County.

    Bradley County DA Stephen Hatchett confirms Potts pleaded guilty to DUI on September 20. He was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in jail, which will be suspended after 48 hours in jail, a $365 fine, court cost, loss of license for 1 year and DUI school/victim impact panel.

    Potts was arrested in Bradley County on September 27, 2023. The initial report from the Tennessee Department of Safety shared that a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper found a vehicle along I-75 with the driver’s door open and no one inside. The report added the trooper found Potts down in a ditch on the side of the road. Several cans of beer, that were empty or near empty, were also found around the vehicle.

    According to his official bio on the Jefferson County website, he is serving his second term as mayor. Potts previously served as Jefferson City mayor from 2010-2018. He also worked for the Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services as a paramedic and supervisor from 1997 to 2018.

    Money talks and bullshit walks I have a video of the local police running red lights with no lights on or going to a call so I called the mayor and he basically said he had a lot on him and was distracted while driving doesn't that count as reckless driving or no because he is a popo , well anyway the mayor stood up for the officer with no reprimand or anything the police in our town r bullying everyone we fought them on taxes so now they r taking it out on the citizens do not go 45 in our town because of u got 46 u will get stopped we have license plate readers in our Walmart and lows parking lots if u have over due fines or anything on u the FLAKA license plate readers will send it to the police we live in a police state we r being monitored on every move we make I work on FedEx and UPS trucks and we r installing FLAKA readers on them so if u driving down the interstate and pass a reader they got u . we r going more communist every day but people won't realize it till it's to late.
