    IWI US, Inc. firearms plant coming to Andersonville

    ANDERSONVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — A firearms manufacturing plant headed by Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) US, Inc. is coming to Anderson County, according to documents filed with county officials.

    IWI US, Inc. is based out of Pennsylvania and manufactures “innovative and cutting edge rifles & handguns. Discover the Carmel, Tavor, Galil Ace, Zion AR-15, Uzi, Jericho and more,” according to its website. It began operations in 2013, while its parent company originally began overseas in Israel.

    An Anderson County Board of Zoning Appeals application, which was filed in August, shared some details of the applicant’s request for the plant to be located on Mountain Road. The application was requesting a special exception for the manufacturing, production, assembly, storage and distribution of tritium and testing of firearms.

    Andy Wallace, president of Anderson County Economic Development Agency, said IWI plans to invest $20 million in the project and create about 80 jobs.

    The property parcel is owned by MLilly USA, according to the Anderson County Board of Zoning Appeals. The board unanimously approved the application at its meeting on Sept. 10.
