    Man facing charges after two women assaulted near Fort Sanders

    KNOXVILLE. Tenn. (WATE) — A man is facing charges after two women were assaulted Monday evening near Cumberland Avenue and 17th Street.

    Brad Collins was charged with aggravated assault and assault with bodily injury. Court records said when asked what happened, he told officers that he was “mad and hungover.”

    According to court records, Collins struck a woman “with a closed fist in the right eye” and then “began to choke her to the point she couldn’t breathe” after she went to walk around him when he stopped in front of University Liquors. The records continue to say that Collins let her go and ran down the street.

    The second victim saw Collins running toward her, according to records, she told police that she tried to look away and not make eye contact when she was hit in the eye with a closed fist.

    Officers said the first victim had a swollen eye and redness to her neck. AMR checked on her at the scene. The second victim had a large cut above her eye and was taken to Fort Sanders Hospital.

    Collins was taken into custody and brought to Knox County intake. A court date has not yet been set.
