KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — With 275 passing yards and four touchdowns in week five against Carter, Halls quarterback Amari Lethgo is our Pella Player of the Week.
Utilizing the pass game enough to rack up nearly 300 yards shows just how much confidence head coach Brent Hughes puts in his starting quarterback.
“It’s definitely a big thing that coach has a lot of trust in me to throw the ball,” said Lethgo.
For the junior, it’s his second full year being the Red Devil’s starting quarterback.
“The experience last year and my freshman year has definitely built me into who I am today if I didn’t play those years I don’t think I’d be at where I’m at right now, I’ve gotten a lot better,” Lethgo said.
As for what Lethgo learned from his time leading the offense last year.
“Having confidence throwing the ball over the middle and knowing that my guys are going to be there like the big targets I have, getting them the ball,” the junior said.
Hughes has played a major role in Lethgo getting to where he is today.
“Coach Hughes always tells me just go out there and do your thing, don’t let anybody get in your head, just keep your composure, do your thing,” said Lethgo. “I think Coach Hughes has helped me a lot in mentoring me and showing me things as a coach. He’s always trusting me and just telling me to go with my gut, he doesn’t pressure me or anything like that, he’s always on my side, just helping me out.”
