KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A woman is facing charges after Knoxville Police said she hit a KPD cruiser as an officer was working a crash on a ramp onto I-40 West early Saturday morning.

KPD reported that the crash happened just after 3 a.m.

‘This is catastrophic:’ Newport left underwater following extreme flooding

As an officer was working a crash on the ramp from West Hills to I-40 West, a Chevy truck suddenly struck the back of the officer’s cruiser, KPD said. The officer was inside of the cruiser at the time of the crash, and KPD said he was treated for minor injuries on the scene before being taken to an area hospital for further evaluation.

A photo shared by Knoxville Police shows damage to the back of the cruiser and the rear window shattered.

Knoxville Police said the driver of the truck, a 46-year-old woman, was charged with driving under the influence, among other charges.

Evacuations ordered along Nolichucky River due to ‘imminent failure of the Nolichucky Dam’

“If you’re under the influence, please, please don’t get behind the wheel and find a sober ride home,” KPD added.
