KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — With everyone looking for how they can help East Tennessee during this time of need, 6 News has teamed up with the East Tennessee Foundation to help area communities recover from Hurricane Helene.

The nonprofit has activated the Neighbor to Neighbor Disaster Relief Fund, which was created in 2011 to help Tennesseans facing devastating storm damage. In the past, it has been used to help people impacted by the 2016 Gatlinburg Wildfires and the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The foundation is working with leaders and other nonprofits in the impacted communities to send funds where they are most needed.

“We do think that we’re in a great position to help,” said East Tennessee Foundation President and CEO Keith Barber. “One, we are a 40-year-old nonprofit, nationally accredited, so we’re trustworthy. And people have trusted us for almost four decades now. Part of that trust is because we are in the community. We look to lean in, to listen, and to learn from our communities.”
