Sweetwater Police: Man facing murder charge after argument between roommates

SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WATE) — The Sweetwater Police Department is investigating after a man was fatally shot inside his residence.

SPD said officers responded to a reported fight in the 100 block of Powell Ave on October 7. At the location, a man, identified as Tony Paramo, approached officers with his hands raised and told them he was armed. SPD said officers then secured the firearm he was carrying.

According to a release from the department, Paramo told officers a shooting had taken place inside the home. Inside, officers found a man dead and an intoxicated man. SPD said the intoxicated man “resisted arrest during detention” and was charged with resisting arrest.

SPD said detectives determined an argument between roommates escalated, leading to Paramo “fatally shooting one of his roommates”, a 23-year-old Hispanic man. Paramo has been charged with first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

SPD said the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending. The department added that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
