COSBY, Tenn. (WATE) — A small mountain community in Cocke County on Wednesday will be distributing hundreds of pounds of food to those in need after receiving a massive donation.

Sunset Gap Community Center Executive Director Audrey Jones and her team of volunteers started organizing the big and surprise donation on Sunday. Jones said the donation came from the Appalachian Advocators Motorcycle Club.

Jones said they now have blankets, hygiene items, toothpaste, dog food, and feminine products to add to the food donations.

“There is so much that we can offer this week and weeks to come because of all the generosity here,” he said.

Getting it all ready required the volunteers to separate items, then move and organize hundreds of boxes. It’s not easy work lifting and moving boxes, but volunteers like Kara Gorrell said people in this area are ready and willing.

“If I needed help someone would come help me,” Gorrell said. “Just the type of community we are.”

Jones said dealing with this donation could have been overwhelming, but the volunteers made it happen.

“The volunteers at Sunset Gap just have a work ethic,” Jones said. “They just know what to do.”

Food will be handed out every Wednesday morning at the Sunset Gap Community Center at 1300 Sunset Gap Road from 9 a.m. to noon.
