LIVE: Tracking the path of Hurricane Milton

TAMPA, Fla. (WATE)— Hurricane Milton continues to push closer to the Florida coastline, and the impacts begin well before landfall.

Milton could make landfall around 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., instead of in the late night hours previously predicted . It is expected to remain fairly strong as it crosses Florida. The system could bring towering storm surges and the power to turn debris from Hurricane Helene into dangerous projectiles.

Storm Team 6 warns that Milton will have life-impacting effects, mainly due to a storm surge that could be over 12 feet in some areas. If you have any family or friends across the Florida Peninsula, please make sure they are aware of these potential impacts and that they heed all evacuation notices from local officials .
