KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — It’s almost like experiencing a dreamy déjà vu on Mt. LeConte as an October snowfall event has occurred for the second year in a row on the same date ; except unlike the French-phrased psychological phenomenon, this isn’t an illusion. In fact, LeConte Lodge staff said Wednesday that nearly four inches of snow had fallen as temperatures were in the 20s.

According to 6 Storm Team , the greater Knoxville area has been experiencing cooler temperatures and clear skies, and some areas are under a frost advisory for later tonight.

In the Smokies , the highs for Wednesday were expected to be in the mid-30s and 40s, especially colder in the higher elevations. Mt. LeConte stands at 6,593 feet in elevation.

Some road closures in the Smokies were in effect due to forecasted ice and snow for areas over 4,000 feet between Tuesday and Wednesday. US 441/Newfound Gap Road closed to all traffic at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Park staff will reassess road conditions Wednesday morning to determine when it can reopen.
