In all phases of the game, Poynette’s Home Talent team was solid in a 9-0 win over Waterloo at home on Monday, May 27.

Kory Ryan had a grand slam and a double, while going 2-for-3, to power Poynette to victory, as Andy Knuteson tossed eight innings of shutout ball, despite allowing nine hits, as Waterloo stranded 12 baserunners. Knuteson struck out six and walked two.

“The guys really played a solid game today,” Davy Tomlinson, Poynette’s head coach. “We continue to limit our defensive mistakes, and our pitchers are not giving up many walks at all.”

Already up 4-0, Poynette doubled its lead on Ryan’s grand slam. Ryan also had an RBI double in the fourth inning.

“Offensively, everyone had a hand in scoring runs today, so it’s great to have a balanced output,” said Tomlinson. “Andy had another good day on the mound, as he was able to work out of jams and strand a bunch of their runners. We were able to make some big plays to help him out.”

Dacota Potter pitched a scoreless ninth to get the save. At the plate, Riley Radewan went 2-for-5.

Poynette is now 3-2 overall, including a 1-1 league mark and a 2-1 record in exhibition play. Slated to play at Rio on Saturday at 1 p.m., the Indians were also scheduled to travel to Black Earth on Tuesday.
