    Gas prices up one cent from last week in Watertown

    WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Gas prices nudged up another cent in Watertown from last week according to AAA of Western and Central New York.

    The organization released its weekly check on the average cost of a gallon of gas for the Western and Central New York region. The average cost of a gallon of gas in the City of Watertown to $3.66. However, Ithaca now has the highest gas price across the region at $3.67.

    Watertown is tied for second with Rome at $3.66. Here’s a look at the average gas prices from across the region:

    • Batavia – $3.55 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
    • Buffalo – $3.61 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
    • Elmira – $3.50 (no change from last Monday)
    • Ithaca – $3.67 (no change from last Monday)
    • Rochester – $3.64 (no change from last Monday)
    • Rome – $3.66 (up 1 cent from last Monday)
    • Syracuse – $3.58 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
    • Watertown – $3.66 (up 1 cent from last Monday)

    Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.52, up one cent from last week. One year ago, the price was $3.57. The state average is $3.63, up one cent from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.68.

    Diesel prices are relatively steady. The national average price for diesel is $3.86, up two cents from last Monday. The New York average is $4.24, no change from last Monday.

    While the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is up slightly from a week ago, there is little to no movement in the average price locally. The price of oil remains steady, trading in the low to mid $80s per barrel this morning. The latest data from the Energy Information Administration indicates a slight decrease in overall demand for gas, while the domestic stockpile of gas dipped fractionally. Hurricane Beryl had limited impact on gasoline refining in the Gulf helping maintain price stability.

    To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
