    Rapids continue surge up PGCBL standings with win at Utica

    UTICA, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Watertown Rapids continued their push for a home playoff game with an 11-7 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League victory over the Utica Blue Sox Tuesday night at Murnane Field.

    Nick Bergamotto and Sam Meyer each posted two hits and two RBIs for Watertown (20-18-1), which is now tied with Utica for fourth place in the PGCBL East Division. Former Lyme Central pitcher Evan Froelich tossed three innings of relief to pick up the win for the Rapids.

    The Rapids have already cliched its first playoff spot since 2017.

    Matthew Williams plated a pair of runs while Kevin Denty recorded three hits, including a triple for the Blue Sox.

    Watertown travels to Boonville to play the Lumberjacks at 6:45 p.m. in the first game of a home-and-home set. The same two teams play each other at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
