    Highlights from Watertown-area high school football games in Week 2

    Two of the state's best nine-man teams, second-rated Class 9AA Hamlin and top-rated Class 9A Howard, rolled to high school football victories in the area on Friday night.

    At Hayti, Hamlin improved to 2-0 by cruising to 44-6 win over fourth-rated Hanson in a battle of rated Class 9AA teams.

    Jackson Wadsworth completed 22 of 28 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns for Hamlin, teaming with Evan Stormo (7 and 58 yards), Mason Trowbridge (23 yards) and Jaden Olsen (21 yards). Stormo and Trowbridge also scored on runs of 16 and 20 yards, respectively, and Easton Neuendorf returned an interception 55 yards for another score.

    Trowbridge rushed 15 times for 72 yards and also caught four passes for 54 yards. Stormo made five catches for 102 yards, Neuendorf five for 36 and Turner Stevenson five for 36 for Hamlin, which outgained Hanson 379-113.

    Sutton Dewald rushed for 30 yards for Hanson, which completed only one of 11 passes for 13 yards.

    Wadsworth made seven tackles and Stevenson intercepted three passes for Hamlin. Stetson Riggs was involved in six tackles, Radek Jarding 5.5 and Dewald five for Hanson (1-1).

    Howard 35, Estelline-Hendricks 8

    ESTELLINE — Howard scored on its first five possessions on the way to a 35-8 win over Estelline-Hendricks in a game played in Estelline.

    Quarterback Carson Hinker threw for four touchdowns and ran for another for the Tigers (2-0). He teamed with Luke Koepsell (25 yards), Garrett Feldhaus (11 yards and 18 yards) and Tate Miller (37 yards) and completed his team's scoring with a 39-yard TD jaunt with 1:23 left in the first half.

    The Redhawks scored in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by Regan Schwartz and a conversion run by Cooper Faehnrich. Carson Reintz went 10-for-15 passing for 117 yards and also made 10 tackles. Wyat James caught four passes for 66 yards and added six tackles. Matthew McAninch chipped in with nine tackles and Faehnrich six.

    Sioux Falls Jefferson 38, Watertown 7

    SIOUX FALLS — Class 11AAA Sioux Falls Jefferson outgained fourth-rated Class 11AA Watertown 445-to-93 in total yards and pulled away in the second half for the win.

    Jefferson led 3-0 after one quarter on a 33-yard field goal by Keenan Aman and increased its lead to 17-0 with short TD runs by Daevion Simonsen and Sam Glesiah in the second quarter.

    The Arrows' lone score came with 54 seconds left in the first half on a 34-yard pass from Treyton Himmerich to Markus Pitkin.

    Simonsen (17 yards) and Glesiah (40 yards) added TD runs in third quarter for Jefferson, which also scored on a 6-yard pass from Ethan Swenson to Edward Whiting. Glesiah ran for 94 yards on eight carries and Simonsen 89 on 11. Stewart completed 17 of 23 passes for 241 yards, teaming with Edward Wepking five times for 73 and Jordan Dettler four for 49. Damaris Fields intercepted two passes and also set up a TD with a long punt return.

    Malique Decker ran for 31 yards on five carries and Brody Randall 18 on four for the Arrows. Himmerich finished 8-for-15 passing for 71 yards, but was intercepted twice and sacked five times. Spencer Wientjes caught three passes for 38 yards and Decker two for 17. Jeremiah Schulte made seven tackels and Marcus Fossum and Mitch Olson five each.

    Pierre 20, Aberdeen Central 14

    ABERDEEN — Seven-time defending champion and No. 1-rated Class 11AA Pierre (1-0) scored two touchdowns in the final 3 1/2 minutes of the first half and held on to beat fifth-rated Aberdeen Central (0-1).

    Pierre trailed 7-6 before scoring on a 17-yard pass to Cooper Terwilliger with 3:28 left and after an interception, the Govs ended the first half with a 2-yard touchdown run by George Stalley. Piere also scored early in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Trevor Rounds.

    Aberdeen Central's Colby Dauwen hauled in a 7-yard TD pass from Brenner Waldrop with 1:26 left in the game before Pierre recovered the onside kickoff and ran out of the clock. Waldrop and Dauwen also teamed for a 15-yard scoring pass with 1:01 left in the first quarter.

    Lousbury completed 23 of 32 passes for 254 yards, connecting with Terwilliger 10 times for 130 pounds. Rounds ran for 72 yards and Colter Babcock intercepted two passes.

    Waldrop went 12-for-27 passing for152 yards. Dauwen hauled in four passes for 77 yards and Brody Aesoph four for 23. Ridley Waldo ran for 23 yards.

    Great Plains Lutheran 42, Waubay-Summit 31

    WAUBAY — Micah Holien shattered Great Plains Lutheran's school record by rushing 22 times for 335 yards and four touchdowns.

    Holien scored on runs of 83, 44, 10 and 43 yards and also added 10 tackles for the Panthers (2-0). He shattered the previous single-game school rushing record of 183 by Thomas Erickson. Brody Scharlemann added a 1-yard TD plunge and tossed a 6-yard scoring pass to Greyson Liens. GPL gained 483 of its 506 yards on the ground. Aiden Cameron also made 10 tackles and Lucas Johnson eight. Logan Bergan added six with an interception and Hayden Karli recovered a fumble.

    Brooks Dolen scored on runs of 4 and 38 yards and also kicked a 37-yard field goal for the Mustangs (0-2), Jayven Maag scored on a 30-yard run and an 80-yard kickoff return. Dolen rushed 15 times for 100 yards and Dylan Rumpza six for 84. Evan Akers completed eight of 25 passes for 65 yards, teaming with Rumpza four times for 22.

    Milbank 55, Lakota Tech 0

    MILBANK — The Bulldogs earned a decisive win in their opener and the debut of first-year head coach Mick Thompson, scoring six touchdowns in the first quarter for a 42-0 lead.

    Braylen Bowsher (1 and 2 yards), Tate Schlueter (27 yards), Nollen Sheeley (24 yards) and Zack Karges (22 yards) all had TD runs for the Bulldogs. Bowsher also connected with Sam Rick on a 36-yard score and Bennett Hunt hauled in a 47-yard pass from Lance Engebretson. Emmett Hanson recovered a Milbank fumble in the end zone for another score.

    The game ended in the third quarter because of the 50-point mercy rule.

    Waverly-South Shore 34, Florence-Henry 20

    FLORENCE — Zach Ries threw for three touchdowns and Sam Appelhof and Colton Kranz each scored two to lift Waverly-South Shore.

    Appelhof caught two of Ries' TD passes and the other went to Kyle Kneeland. Kranz rushed for both of his scores and Bryan Ramirez added a 37-yard field goal for the Coyotes (1-1). Ries rushed 12 times for 80 yards and also threw for 71 yards. Kranz ran eight times for 66 yards and Appelhof caught eight passes for 86. Garrett Taecker led the defense with eight tackles and Brady Eschen added eight.

    The Falcons (0-1) scored on an 18-yard pass from Dawson Lantgen to James Kahnke and runs by Lantgen (10 yards) and Karter Kohlenberg (44 yards). Kohlenberg compiled 120 yards rushing on 18 carries and Tristyn Sumner four for 36. Lantgen threw for 71 yards, connecting with Kohlenberg six times for 52. Tucker Keller notched six tackles and Kohlenberg and Dawson Hlavacek five each.

    Deuel 40, Sisseton 0

    CLEAR LAKE — The Cardinals rebounded from a season-opening loss by scoring all of their points in the first half.

    Gavin Kloos found the end zone on runs of 60 and 30 yards and Aiden Sievers tossed touchdown passes to Gabe Sather (43 yards and 69 yards) and Troy Jenson (85 yards). Sather also returned an interception 44 yards for a TD. Kloos had 90 yards rushing on two carries and Sievers passed for 279 yards. Sather caught three passes for 129 and Jenson two for 115.

    Carson Marko made eight tackles, Kllos six and Josiah Swenson five for Deuel.

    Taylor Snaza rushed for 40 yards and also recorded seven tackles for Sisseton (0-2). Jackson Wegner passed for 50 yards, completing three passes for Brett Hansen. Jeremias Perez intercepted a pass.

    De Smet 72, Garretson 21

    De SMET — Ganon Henrich and Slayten Wilkinson combined for 339 yards rushing and eight touchdowns for the Bulldogs (1-1). Henrich rushed seven times for 212 yards and four TDs and Wilkinson eight for 127 and three TDs. He also returned a kickoff 72 yards for another score.

    Gannon Gilligan also rushed for a touchdown and Carter Wilkinson recovered a blocked punt for another score. Slayten Wilkinson notched eight tackles and Henrich and Gannon Gilligan five each. Gilligan blocked a punt and recovered a fumble. RJ Cleveland intercepted a pass.

    Cole Jessen went 14-for-21 passing for 177 yards and two TDs for Garretson (0-2). Treyton Decker hauled in both TD passes and finished with 77 yards receiving. Collin Olson returned a kickoff 72 yards for another score.

    Chester 7, Castlewood 0

    CHESTER — Layke Wold teamed with Jaxton Opdahl on a 12-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to help Chester win the defensive struggle.

    Wold went 12-for-20 passing for 139 yards. Zach Moyer made three catches for 30 yards for the Flyers (1-0).

    Camron Eng rushed for 130 yards and also made 13 tackles for Castlewood (0-2). Trevor Everson had six tackles and Bryon Laue, Brody Bass and Kamden Keszler had five each. Laue and Bass each had two quarterback sacks and Keszler recovered a fumble.

    Wolsey-Wessington 52, Deubrook Area 6

    WHITE — Fourth-rated Class 9A Wolsey-Wessington improved to 2-0 with the win over the defending state Class 9A runner-up Dolphins.

    The lone score for Deubrook Area (0-2) came on a 70-yard kickoff return by Ty Landmark.

    Leola-Frederick Area 36, Britton-Hecla 0

    BRITTON — Westyn Thorpe's 8-yard touchdown run and subsequent conversion run with 20 seconds gave the Titans (2-0) the win.

    The Braves had tied the game on Dashel Davidson's 14-yard TD run and a conversion pass from Jace Rein to Bennett Suther with 5:54 remaining.

    Gavin Nickelson scored on runs of 8 and 52 yards and also hauled in a 15-yard TD pass from Noah Kippley for LFA. Kippley also connected on a 31-yard score with Ethan Petrich. Nickelson ran for 95 yards and Thorpe 83. Kippley went 7-for-7 passing for 109 yards, connecting with Petrich four times for 78.

    Westyn Thorpe was involved in 12 tackles, Jace Thorpeand Zander Hoffman eight each and Petrich, Dutin Wurtz and Nickelson seven apiece for LFA.

    Rein fired scoring passes to Jaxon Zuehlke (10 yards), Daniel Person (4 yards) and Suther (45 yards) for the Braves, who fell to 0-2. Bryce Hawkinson rushed 23 times for 124 yards, caught three passes for 40 yards and made six tackles. Rein went 9-for-16 passing for 153 yards. Davidson contributed seven tackles.

    Groton Area 29, Mobridge-Pollock 12

    GROTON — Korbin Kucker and Keegen Tracy each scored two touchdowns to lead Groton Area (1-0) to victory. Kuecker scored on runs of 3 and 40 yards. Tracy caught a 23-yard pass from Kucker and also returned a kickoff 89 yards for another score.

    Kucker ran for 41 yards, Ryder Johnson completed seven of nine passes for 94 yards and Tracy hauled in three passes for 68. Tucker Hardy produced 13 tackles, Johnson nine and Christian Ehresmann and Karter Moody eight each for Groton Area.

    Mack Saxon (14 yards) and Jasckson Eisemann (1 yard) each had TD runs for Mobridge-Pollock (1-1). Saxon ran the football 26 times for 151 yards and caught two passes for 46. Carter Hinsz led the defense with eight tackles.

    Canistota 12, Colman-Egan 6

    COLMAN — Brady Scott and Levi Schroeder each scored rushing touchdowns for fifth-rated Class 9B Canistota (1-1).

    Scott ran for 54 yards and completed eight of 22 passes for 116 yards. Schroeder added 49 yards rushing and Easton Miller hauled in six passes for 101 yards.

    Hayden Pearson went 6-for-15 passing for 84 yards and a touchdown for Colman-Egan (0-2). Jace Mousel caught the TD pass and finished with four catches for 63 yards.

    McCook Central-Montrose 33, Webster Area 6

    WEBSTER — McCook Central-Montrose evened its season record at 1-1 with the win over the Bearcats.

    Lane Deutsch ran for three TDs and passed for another for MCM, which got TD receptions from Mason Sabers and Preston Bradley. Deutsch also made eight tackles.

    Tate Mammenga produced the lone score for the host Bearcats (1-1) on a 61-yard TD run.

    Elkton-Lake Benton 40, Viborg-Hurley 24

    VIBORG — Colt Beck ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to spark the third-rated Elks (2-0) past the fifth-rated Cougars (1-1) in a Class 9AA battle.

    Beck ran for 89 yards and passed for 171. Tanner Stein contributed two rushing TDs and also caught four passes for 106 yards and another TD. The Elks finished with 273 yards rushing and 171 passing.

    Stein and Blake De Vries each notched seven tackles. Beck and Stein intercepted passes.

    Viborg-Hurley was led by Brenner Gerdes, who threw for 212 yards and two TDs and also ran for a score. Nicholas Hanson, who caught five passes for 108 yards, and Brady Schroedermeier each hauled in TD passes.

    Herreid-Selby Area 50, Northwestern 0

    SELBY — Jared Weisbeck accumulated 230 yards passing and 121 yards rushing and had a hand in six touchdowns for HSA (2-0).

    Weisbeck, who went 9-for-13 passing, threw two TDs to Houston Hauge and one each to Addonnais Mills and Noah Schuetzler and also ran for two other scores. Hauge hauled in three passes for 105 yards and also ran for a TD.

    Kaden Sayler made five tackles, including two for a loss, for Northwestern (0-2).

    Kimball-White Lake 52, Redfield 0

    REDFIELD — Kimball-White Lake divided up the scoring in the win over Redfield with six players combining for the team's eight touchdowns.

    Iden Myers led the WiLdKats with five rushes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Chevy Fees added nine rushes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Carter Konechne and Lucas Lenz combined for 15 tackles.

    No statistics were provided for Redfield.

    Warner 47, Potter County 6

    GETTYSBURG — Jesiah Baum scored on a 71-yard kickoff return, 11-yard run and 49-yard pass from Drew Bakeberg for third-rated Class 9A Warner (2-0).

    Jack Williams (18 yards), Payton Volk (8 runs) and Gage Broderson (21 yards) added TD runs and Bakeberg also hooked up with Devon Fischbach on a 49-yard TD pass for the Monarchs. Bakeberg completed three of four passes for 133 yards.

    Landon Larson went 7-for-22 passing for 116 yards for PC (0-2), including a 53-yard TD pass to Jett Simon.

    Other Games

    Other games on Friday involving area teams included Arlington 22, Wilmot 6; Dupree 80, North Central 26; Warner 47, Potter County 6; and Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 43, Sunshine Bible Academy 16. No details were reported from those games.

    Maple River outscored Tri-State 82-58 in North Dakota and Martin County West blanked Canby 42-0 and Fertile-Beltrami topped Border West 60-32 in west central Minnesota.

    Hitchcock-Tulare 30, Iroquois-Lake Preston 6 (Thursday)

    IROQUOIS — Blaze Binger ran 23 times for 249 yards and two touchdowns for Hitchcock-Tulare (1-1). He found the end zone from 5 and 58 yards out.

    Derek Johnson (5 yards) and Payton Chasing Hawk (35 yards) added TD runs for the Patriots. Morgan Bottum and Mikael Nelson were each involved in 10 tackles and Preston Wipf had eight. Chasing Hawk added an interception and a fumble recovery.

    Lucas Peskey rushed 24 times for 68 yards and a 6-yard touchdown, completed five of 13 passes for 48 yards and also intercepted a pass for ILP (also 1-1). Ervin Carter hauled in a 40-yard reception. Ben Curd was involved in eight tackles and Rexton Blue and Rayson Timm five each.

    Other Thursday Scores — Faulkton Area 28, Ipswich 14 and Omaha Nation 20, Tiospa Zina 0 in South Dakota. In west central Minnesota, Dawson-Boyd rolled past Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 48-14, Park Christian blanked Ortonville 28-0 and Murray County Central downed Lac qui Parle Valley 31-13.
