    Shortstop-reliever Nathan Briggs announces committment to play baseball at Wayne (Neb.) State

    WATERTOWN — Another Watertown Post 17 American Legion baseball player has announced his decision to play college baseball.

    Nathan Briggs, a senior at Watertown High School, announced his commitment on play at Wayne (Neb.) State on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

    Briggs played shortstop and also served as a relief pitcher this summer for a Post 17 team that went 46-25, tying for the second most wins in program history, and tied for third in the state Class A touranment. It was Post 17's highest finish at state since 2010.

    Briggs completed his second year as a regular for Post 17 by batting .314 with nine doubles, four homers, 51 runs scored and 40 runs batted in.

    He also went 1-0 on the mound with two saves.

    In 2023, Briggs took over in July as Post 17's starting third baseman and batted .421. He is expected to be back next summer for Post 17.

    Briggs joins teammates Kaden Rylance and Talan Jurgens as future college baseball players. Rylance has committed to South Dakota State University as a pitcher-catcher and Jurgens to Dakota State University as a pitcher.
