Grassland Granite LLC has been a part of the Watertown and Aberdeen business landscape for decades. Yet the team on the floor in Watertown is pretty excited in their 19th Street showroom, which just opened in May.

“We’ve got more room to show more product and material,” said Carrie Bartscher, showroom manager for Grassland Granite. “We are in a busier, more visible part of town, and so far, everything is going great. It is a privilege to help people make their house more of a unique home for their whole family.”

Granite is growing as a material to make any room in a home go from meh to wow. With a wide range of colors, textures and traits, more people are finding ways to redo their homes with stone.

“The veining you’ll find in many granite samples makes it one-of-a-kind,” said Bartscher. “There are no two pieces the same, and people are developing a passion for granite, quartz, porcelain and quartzite.”

Part of granite's appeal is the timeless nature of the material. It ages well, and while more costly than manmade materials, there’s no chipping, fading or discoloration because you forgot that frying pan was still hot.

“Quartz and porcelain products we offer are manmade, yet have the strength and long-lasting qualities that come with natural stone like quartzite or granite,” she said. “We’re lucky because we can join forces with creative homeowners and come up with totally unique approaches.”

Many might think of countertops when it comes to stone, but the material can form the basis of anything from a closet organizer to a bathroom shower. Window sills, firepits and much more, made with stone, are starting to draw the attention of homeowners looking to freshen up their home.

“It’s a bond of trust to be the people who are spending time in your house, making it the way you want — we really appreciate that opportunity,” Bartscher said. “We also enjoy surprising people when they realize the price points are less than they expected.”

Creating distinctive kitchen islands and other touches to a home is not locked in stone for Grassland Granite. With their TruFinish Woodworx sister business, they go beyond décor to design.

“We have our fabrication teams in Westport and Hosmer, our shops in Aberdeen and Watertown, and more than two decades of experience,” Bartscher said. “That’s why it’s exciting to have new customers come in with questions or ideas. We've got the means to make anything from a closet to a complete floorplan come to life in your home.”

It’s easy to imagine stone as simple, since we see it daily on the shoulder of a road or a beach or elsewhere.

“It’s not all black or brown, and it’s nothing like it was 20 years ago when granite countertops started to get attention,” said Bartscher. “Our designers, fabricators and sales teams realize your ideas are priority. We can most likely make them a reality.”

Grasslands Granite ’s new Watertown showroom is located at 12 19th Street N.E. The store is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
