Cherry retailers are booming as growers struggle to hold on
Glen Arbor-based retailer Cherry Republic has built a successful business around a fruit that company President Bob Sutherland calls a “ruby red morsel of joy.”. For Cherry Republic, the tart cherry is much more than a crop, it’s a key piece of the Up North lifestyle that the company sells through its chain of six stores throughout Michigan, including locations in Holland, Traverse City, Charlevoix, Ann Arbor, and Frankenmuth. The stores offer more than 200 products ranging from chocolate-covered dried cherries and cherry candy to cherry summer sausage and cherry-based barbeque sauce. The company, which has 140 full-time employees, also distributes to around 700 stores nationwide.
Histories of Arthur Hill, Saginaw High schools traced in planned museum exhibit
SAGINAW, MI — A museum display next week will chart the histories of two high schools that shut down weeks ago after generations spent teaching Saginaw pupils. CARO — Police say that almost five years ago, Kendrick R. Abernathy forged two checks – payable to himself – for a total of $5,699. The checks, from Cass City Oil and Gas Co. to Abernathy, were forged by Abernathy on Sept. 1 and Sept. 6, of 2019. Woman misses chance to avoid jail
CARO — One could say Rachel L. Parrish received a break when a judge delayed her sentence for one year, keeping her out of jail. But Parrish, 32, of Caro, didn’t take advantage of the situation.
