WATERTOWN — Watertown Police Chief David Brower announced Friday that Watertown Detective Sergeant Laura Bohlman has graduated as a member of the 290th session of the FBI National Academy. A ceremony was held June 6 at the National Academy in Quantico, Va.

Bohlman is one of a handful of officers in department history to complete the program. Nationally, fewer than 1% of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

“Sgt. Bohlman has been a valuable asset to our department for many years, serving in various capacities with distinction and excellence, including the Investigation Division and the Patrol Division,” Brower said. “We welcome her back from the FBI National Academy, to continue her leadership within our department, helping to improve our service to the citizens of Watertown.”

Watertown Assistant Police Chief Ben Olsen echoed those sentiments.

“Detective Sergeant Bohlman has had an exemplary career with the police department, serving in various roles including patrol officer, detective, school resource officer, drug task force detective and sergeant,” Olsen said. “Each position has been performed at the highest standards, as evidenced by her personnel file filled with commendations and letters of praise from citizens and professionals within the criminal justice system.

“Her dedication and exceptional performance have earned her the trust and respect of her coworkers and those she supervises,” Olsen added. “We cannot wait to see her implement the insights and skills she has gained the FBI Academy, along with watching her continued success.”

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 290th session of the National Academy consisted of 201 law enforcement officers, which was comprised of men and women from 46 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 24 countries, five military organizations, and six federal civilian organizations.
