Woman Charged With Stealing State Funds For Foster Kids To Make First Court Appearance Thursday
PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Iowa woman accused of stealing over one-point-eight million dollars intended for the care of foster children in South Dakota is scheduled to appear in court Thursday in Pierre to address those charges. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says 68-year-old Lonna Carroll has been indicted on two counts of Aggravated Grand Theft. Carroll is a former Department of Social Services employee who retired to Iowa last year. The South Dakota Legislatures’ Government Operations and Audit Committee is making a formal request to review the situation. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating a northeast Iowa fish kill. On July 19th, the DNR Field Office in Manchester was notified of dead fish in Crane Creek, approximately two miles southwest of Readlyn in Bremer County.
