The Junction City 515 Report
It is hard to not wax poetic as I draft this 5-15 report. I sit in the brief chasm between 9 and a half years of a 34+ year veteran of city administration and Monday morning where the interim city manager arrives in-person. I figured that the City would be sailing smoothly over just four days upon Allen Dinkel’s retirement.

Economist: Economy weak across Midwest
Creighton University economist Ernie Goss told Hutch Post that his Rural Mainstreet survey is still showing weakness in the economy for this part of the country. "This is a survey of bank CEOs in rural areas of 10 states, including Kansas, right down the middle, mid-section of the country," Goss said. "The overall rating for July was not good. In fact, this is the lowest that we've recorded this year, and it's certainly down from this time last year. And what we're seeing is just the rural Main Street economy, driven a lot by agriculture and energy, just not holding up very well."

How Kansas politicians gave a controversial property tax break to businesses
When Kansas politicians passed a compromise tax cut plan last month, the deal included a little-known policy change that gives a tax break to certain businesses. The 1031 exchange provision is a complex piece of tax policy that received little attention, despite being controversial when it wasn't bundled into a bigger tax package. Supports...
