    U.S. Army Watervliet Arsenal preps for command change

    WATERVLIET, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– The U.S. Army Watervliet Arsenal will hold its 64th Change of Commander Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, at the military base near Quarters One. The 63rd commander, Col. Alain G. Fisher, will step down, and Col. Jason Schultz will take command.

    The arsenal is a historic cannon manufacturing facility that began operating during the War of 1812. Schultz will participate in infrastructure and equipment improvements amounting to $1.7 billion over the next 15 years.

    The United States and foreign ally militaries use artillery, tank cannon, and mortar systems produced at the Watervliet arsenal. Before Schultz’s command, he was the Chief of Plans for the United States Transportation Command and was deployed several times during the Global War on Terror.
