Michael Jackson 's former pet chimp Bubbles is living his best life, something that would make the late singer very happy according to the sanctuary that took him in.

The Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, FL, became Bubbles' home with the senior chimp given plenty of love and care at the facility. The primate is now 41 years old and gets regular checks from both his vet and his caregivers at the sanctuary where he thoroughly enjoys his freedom.

Bubbles weighs 180lbs and has tunnels he can explore, as well as building himself a nest under a tree, taking daily naps and even indulging in a spot of painting while having fun at his residence. While he is advancing in age chimps in captivity have a lifespan of 50 - 60 years so he has a good few ahead of him yet.

The center director Patti Ragan filled TMZ in on how Bubbles has been keeping as a resident. She assured them that he shows no signs of past abuse and is a happy, friendly chimp who has positive interactions with both visitors and other animals.

In fact, Bubbles has formed a strong relationship with his fellow chimps too with his friends at the sanctuary named Oopsie, Boma, Ripley, Kodua, and Stryker. The sanctuary will play music and videos for the chimps - including a string of Micahel's big hits from his back catalogue.

However, Bubbles apparently shows no preference for MJ's songs over any of the others he has been played during his stay. Perhaps indicating that his time as the pop star's close companion has faded into the past for him as he has aged.

Bubbles was just a young primate when he was separated from Michael, who had to give him up when he reached adulthood. The pop icon initially sent him to a trainer in 2003 before he moved on to his forever home at the sanctuary two years later.

Michael then passed away just four years later on June 25 2009 from acute propofol intoxication. Patti told TMZ that the Center for Great Apes have no plans to mark the 15-year anniversary of Michael's death.

The Michael Jackson Estate still cares for Bubbles after Michael's death, making contributions to his annual care cost, which totals around $30K a year. Michael's fan club also contribute to his care by sending Bubbles treats and luxury items such as coconuts, mangos and blankets which he likes to curl up with for his naps. Michael's attorney and family members have also visited Bubbles in recent years.
