With a successful two-day quarterback camp completed at Regis High School last month, the Jeff Trickey quarterback/wide receiver camps are returning to the home of the Ramblers next week for another round.

A three-day QB/wide receiver advanced camp is set for July 25-27 for football players in grades 7-12. This comes following last month’s more specialized quarterback camp.

These camps continue a tradition that dates back 35 years, allowing area high school quarterbacks and wide receivers to have the opportunity to participate in camps aimed at not only sharpening their game, but also improving their leadership skills on and off the field along the way.

Karen Aamot, a volunteer for the camps, told the Leader-Telegram last spring when the summer camps were initially announced that the first camp was at Waukesha South High School in 1989.

“The coaches have always been committed to developing young players. The youth camps were added for fourth-through-sixth grades a few years ago,” Aamot said.

While Aamot noted that there is no specific limit as to how many players can attend the various camps, “camps in general have (between) 35-50 players and coaches are engaged to support the enrollments.”

Led by nationally recognized and hall of fame quarterback coach Jeff Trickey, and a staff of current and former college quarterbacks and receivers, since 1989, it is one of the most respected quarterback and receiver development programs in the country.

Trickey is a member of Wisconsin Hall of Fame and has earned a national reputation as one of the finest teachers of the quarterback position and a gifted motivational speaker, a bio on the camp’s website states.

According to information posted on the camp’s website “Our staff is chosen from current and former college quarterbacks that have excelled at the position, are passionate teachers and serve as positive role models for our campers.”

It is also noted on the website that “From the D-1 recruit, to the freshman just beginning his journey — we are a camp where you go to get better. Develop your game, your character and your potential as a leader.” The camps are described as intense, detail-oriented instruction that is delivered with expertise, passion and individual attention.

Aamot noted that the slogan of the camo is “Accept the risk of leadership” and Trickey touts the following: “We know you will be a better player after this camp, but we also want you to be a better person.”

The camps are being held throughout the Upper Midwest and Iowa this summer. They started on June 1 and run through July 31.

    Next week’s three-day advanced camps will run as follows: July 25, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; July 26, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and July 27, 9 a.m. to noon.

It is noted in a media release sent to the Leader-Telegram earlier this week that this specific camp is intended for all skill sets and will allow participants to both read and attack defenses. The importance of leadership responsibilities for quarterbacks will also be stressed. You may register on site, the release goes on to state.
