Held to three hits, the Waunakee softball team wrapped up the regular season with a 5-2 Badger Large Conference loss to rival DeForest on Tuesday, May 14.

The Warriors were supposed to end the campaign with a game at Janesville Craig on Thursday, May 16, but it was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Against the Norskies, Waunakee took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but DeForest responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to go up for good.

The Warriors wouldn’t score again until the top of the seventh.

Amanda Comins, Danica Ripp and Jade Keene all had hits for the Warriors, as Comins and Ripp each smacked a triple. Waunakee’s Keene and Annika Lee knocked in runs.

Avery Abercrombie and Isabella Lobraco each pitched three innings, combining for six strikeouts, four walks and six hits allowed.

Waunakee was slated to open regional play at La Crosse Central on Tuesday, May 21.
