Opponents are finding it hard to score on the Waunakee girls’ soccer team.

The Warriors have recorded shutouts in six straight matches, all of them wins for the No. 3 ranked team in Division 1, according to the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association.

Most recently, Waunakee defeated Germantown, Verona and Milton in succession to improve to 12-2-1 overall and 4-0 in Badger Large Conference play.

Against Germantown, Alyssa Thomas and Sophie Schnaubelt worked together to produce two goals, both scored by Thomas with Schnaubelt assisting.

One goal was scored in the first half, the other was in the second. Malia Zillman made three saves for Waunakee to preserve the shutout.

The Warriors then proceeded to blank Verona 4-0 in another non-conference affair on Saturday, May 18, as four Waunakee players — Charli Smith, Hadley Frost, Schaubelt and Cardyn Frost — netted goals. Thomas had two assists, as Ava Nielsen and Brooke Nelson also collected helpers.

The game was 1-0 at the half, with Waunakee scoring three second-half goals.

On Monday, May 20, Brooke Nelson scored a hat trick in a 6-0 Badger Large Conference win over Milton, while Alyssa Thomas had a goal and two assists.

Schnaubelt and Hadley Frost both found the back of the net in the game’s first 20 minutes, with Alyssa Thomas assisting on both.

Lauren Wiitanen, Smith and Addie Thomas also notched assists for Waunakee.

Emily Acker had one save in net for the Warriors.
