Waunakee and DeForest are conference opponents that know each other all too well, and they faced off for the first time this season on Aug. 29 at DeForest. This tight contest fell in favor of the Warriors, 4-3.

The singles flights split, with Waunakee picking up two victories by Madi Anderson and Sofia Chaudary. Anderson defeated Joanna Wells, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. The no. four singles Chaudary defeated Ellie Bains, 6-1, 6-4. Waunakee lost in the first and third singles flights. DeForest’s Chloe Knutson defeated Waunakee’s no. one, Taylor Copeland 6-2, 6-3. Carley O’Connor came out on top against Warriors Emma Hendricks, 6-3, 6-1.

The no. one doubles teams and individuals in those teams are successful in their own right. DeForest’s Marin Catencamp and Sophia Golliher have made multiple appearances in the State meet. Caroline Lee also has experience in the State meet, and her partner Elly Liu fought hard and was victorious in the Badger Large conference tournament last season. In their match on Thursday, Caroline Lee and Ely Liu came out on top with scores of 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-7 over Catencamp and Golliher.

DeForest’s no. two team of Lily Finnegan and Emma Eiselt defeated Carly Hottman and Nadia Chaudhary, 6-2 and 6-3 overall. The no. three Waunakee duo of Caroline Schnaubelt and Marah Westphal defeated Addisyn Basham and Evangeline Linzer, 6-0 and 6-3.
