    Girls soccer: Warriors crush Parker, Oconomowoc in regional play

    Janesville Parker and Oconomowoc ran into a buzzsaw.

    In regional wins over both, the Waunakee girls’ soccer team outscored them by a combined 19-1.

    The Warriors opened postseason play by crushing Parker 10-0 on Tuesday, May 28, as Alyssa and Addie Thomas each scored two goals, as did Lauren Delgado. They led Waunakee to a 7-0 halftime lead.

    Others netting goals for the Warriors were Brooke Nelson, Cardyn Frost, Ava Nielsen and Megan Collins. Frost also collected two assists, with Sophie Schnaubelt doing the same. Charli Smith, Emersyn Simon and Lauren Wiitanen also had helpers in the win.

    Waunakee forced Parker goalkeeper Teana Anderson into making 15 saves.

    Oconomowoc experienced a similar fate, as Wauankee rolled past the Raccoons 9-1, as Sophie Schnaubelt recorded a hat trick. Anne Fisher opened the scoring in the eighth minute, with Alyssa Thomas assisting. Three minutes later Alyssa Thomas made it 2-0, as Nelson got the assist. Schnaubelt scored two goals in a span of about 11 minutes, as Waunakee began pulling away. Alyssa Thomas scored again in the 30th minute. Megan Collins found the back of the net just before the half to make it 6-0.

    Schnaubelt and Smith scored for Waunakee in the second half, as an own goal gave Waunakee its last goal.

    Alyssa Thomas finished with two goals and three assists, as Nelson, Kennedy Ross and Smith also notched assists.

    Malia Zillman and Emily Acker had two saves apiece for the Warriors, now 16-2-2 and ranked No. 3 in Division 1.

    On Thursday, Waunakee plays at Madison West at 7 p.m. in sectional play.
