    JUNE 27: PATRIOTIC CONCERT

    The Waunakee Community Band will perform its Patriotic Concert at 7 p.m. June 16 at the Village Park gazebo. The Lions Club will serve a meal starting at 5 p.m.

    JUNE 26: FARMERS MARKET

    The Waunakee Farmers and Makers Market will be at Reeve Park next to the Waunakee Depot from 3 — 6 p.m. June 26 and Wednesdays throughout the season through mid October.

    JULY 4: WAUNABOOM

    WaunaBoom brings a day of entertainment and celebration of the nation’s independence to Ripp park on July 4. Children’s rides, petting farm, activities, music, food carts and more begin at 2 p.m. with the national anthem and F-35 flyover at approximately 2:15 p.m. For information, visit www.waunaboom.com .

    JULY 11: WAUNAKEE MEMORY CAFE

    Waunakee’s Dementia Friendly Committee will sponsor its monthly Memory Café on Thursday, July 11, from 9:30 — 11 a.m. at the Steeplechase Condominium Clubhouse, 5636 Conway Glen (off Woodland Drive). Signs will be posted to direct people to the Clubhouse. The Café’s theme will be “On Wisconsin!” Matt Lepay, the voice of the Wisconsin Badgers, will talk about his close to 30 years of broadcasting Wisconsin football and men’s basketball games. The Café provides a social gathering place and programs for those with mild cognitive impairment or early to mid-stage dementia, along with their family members or friends. Memory Cafes will resume on the first Thursday of each month in August. Participants do not have to be residents of Waunakee; all are welcome!     JULY 9: AUTHOR TALK — ZOOM

    The community is invited for a visit to Deckawoo Drive with with Mercy Watson and Kate DiCamillo and everyone’s favorite adventure loving pig, Mercy Watson at the Waunakee Public Library Tuesday, July 9, at 1 p.m. on ZOOM. Can’t view at this time? No problem! Sign up and receive a link to watch at your convenience.

    JULY 9: OUTER SPACE AT THE LIBRARY

    The Discover Center Museum will offer the opportunity to launch a rocket, explore an exoplanet, and space out in the Solar System at Waunakee Public Library Tuesday, July 9, from 1:30 — 3 p.m. Participants can on an engineering challenge by designing a spacecraft, a Mars rover, or a lunar base. This is a drop-in program with multiple activities that will be available for the entire time.

    JULY 10: ROTARY SENIOR PICNIC

    The Waunakee Rotary Club will host the senior citizen picnic July 10 starting at 11 a.m. at Tierney Park in Southbridge. On the menu are brats, hamburgers, potato salad, coleslaw, fruit salad and s’mores.

    JULY 11: AMERICAN LEGION MEETING

    American Legion Post 360, 417 East Main Street, Waunakee will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 11, in the Legion clubroom beginning with a cookout. Members should bring their own meat and table service. Coals will be ready at 6 p.m. followed by the monthly meeting at 7 p.m. New members are welcome. If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since Dec. 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving, you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!     JULY 16: WAUNASPIKE REGISTRATION DEADLINE

    The Waunakee Lions Club will be serving up the 28th (almost) Annual Wauna Spike, a co-ed 6-person volleyball tournament. This year’s tournament will be Saturday, July 27, at the Ripp Park soccer fields. People of all ages are eligible to participate. Pool competition begins at 8:30 a.m. and will run until roughly 1 p.m. Playoffs are expected to conclude around 6 p.m. Play will occur in three divisions: Power, Intermediate & Recreation. Underhand serves will be required for the Recreation Division. Teams will be required to field 3 men and 3 women for tournament play. Team entries cost $90 each. Each team will be guaranteed 8 games prior to the beginning of playoffs. Teams making the playoffs will then participate in a single elimination playoff format. Completed entries, with team fees, must be received by July 16. All completed entries will be entered into the tournament on a first come basis. No refunds will be made after July 16.

    JULY 18: LEGION AUXILIARY MEETING

    American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 360, 417 East Main Street, Waunakee will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 p.m. This is a new meeting time. Anyone interested in learning about the ALA and its service to veterans and the community is welcome to attend. ALA membership is open to spouses and widows of America’s military men and women veterans, as well as mothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of veterans. The purpose of the ALA is to support the American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve, by enhancing the lives of veterans and their families.
