    Aug. 7, 1924

    Mr. and Mrs. Bert Tubbs announce the birth of a daughter at Madison General Hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

    More than 3 inches of rain fell Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. The rain was accompanied by high winds and sharp lightning.

    Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dorn announce the birth of a daughter at their home in the Town of Westport on Friday, Aug. 1.

    Joseph Karls, town of Dane, is building an addition to his farm home.

    The assessed valuation of Waunakee is 923,526 with homestead exemptions of 55,600, leaving 862,036.

    Aug. 4, 1949

    Miss Betty Lou Kessenich and John C. Mulhern were united in marriage in St. John the Baptist Church on July 23.

    Mr. and Mrs. John Statz, Dane, announce the birth of a daughter at St. Mary’s Hospital on Sunday, July 31.

    St. John’s congregation will observe their Diamond Jubilee on Sunday, Aug, 14.

    Mr. and Mrs. Linus Schwab are the proud parents of a son born at St. Mary’s Hospital on Aug. 1.

    The new brass house numbers have been delivered to business places and residents, and many of the street numbers are already up.

    Mrs. John Helt, 27, died last week at her home in the Town of Middleton.

    Aug. 5, 1954

    The Waunakee Indians defeated Roxbury Sunday 3-2 to win the Central Station Championship.

    Rev. James Nellen was among the 16 priests who were elevated to Monsignor by His Excellency Archbishop Meyer of Milwaukee last week Tuesday.

    The Waunakee Alloy Casting Corporation is erecting a 30x60 building for the storage of patterns.

    Mr. and Mrs. Frank Keegan will celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schalles have moved into their new home on Fifth Street which they recently purchased from Michael F. Simon.

    Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Karls, Waunakee, are the proud parents of a son born at St. Mary’s Hospital on Thursday, July 23.

    A group of four local businessmen, Bernard Kuehn, Ed Endres, Bob Wipperfurth and Henry Zander, have purchased the Constant Klein farm just west of Waunakee on Hwy. Q.

    Mike Simon and Rod Adler combined to pitch a no-hit, no-run game last Thursday on the Waunakee diamond. The score was Waunakee 1, Ashton 0.

    Aug. 8, 1974

    Henry Kruschek Sr. was presented with a beautifully “engraved” meat hook on the occasion of his recent retirement from Oscar Mayer and Co. after 26 years of service.

    Niles Bakke of Waunakee survived tournament pressures of two veteran and fellow Maple Bluff golfers to win the Madison City Gold title Sunday afternoon.

    Wisconsin’s revised “open meetings” law, which went into effect in June of this year, expands the number of governmental meetings that must be open to the public and creates penalties for violations.

    Clarence P. Ziegler, 56, formerly of Middleton, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 31, in a Milwaukee hospital.

    Cyndy Dreifke, who was a 1973 Waunakee High School graduate, was seriously injured in a one-car accident on March 28, in front of the Louis Herbrand home. She has come out of the coma but is still unable to walk.

    July 19, 1984

    The Waunakee Village Board approved a resolution Monday to borrow money for the new village library.

    A sky-diver from the Seven Hill Sky-diving Club of Columbus is pictured making a landing in the trees at the Waunakee Airport during an exhibition for the fly-in, drive-in breakfast.

    Mrs. Sam (Grace) Blake, age 81, died on Thursday, July 12, at a Madison hospital.

    Renee S. Williamson and John G. Wagner were married at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

    Judy and Ron Jenne are welcoming a daughter born at Madison General Hospital on Saturday, July 14.

    Gary and Clare Tygum, Waunakee, are the proud parents of a daughter born Tuesday, July 10, at Madison General Hospital.

    The Waunakee Rotary Club installed new officers recently. The new club president is Allen Rosenthal who succeeds past president Phil Willems.

    July 7, 1994

    Simon Builders and residents near the Woodland Drive – Division Street corner reached a compromise which will allow construction of office space in that area. The Waunakee Village Board voted Tuesday to rezone a little less than one acre of land, allowing for limited office use.

    Jim Buchanan and his restored 1958 Metropolitan is featured on the front page of the Tribune this week. Owners for the tiny, restored cards, the Met Set, recently gathered at Wisconsin Dells.

    Heather and Jeff Kippley of Waunakee are the proud parents of a baby girl. She was born on July 2 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    Three Warriors - Jenny Scheuerell, Holly Endres and Jenny Wolff – were named to the all-district softball team.

    July 8, 2004

    Waunakee businessman Dennis Heimann has been named to fill the vacant Town of Vienna seat on the Waunakee school board.

    Local village officials and developers cut the ribbon on a new senior citizen housing development, Cannery Row.

    Emma Karls will celebrate her 100th birthday. She was born on July 13.

    An increase of 3.7%, or $683,000, in state aid is projected for the Waunakee school district, about what school administrators anticipated.

    Marlene Ziegler, nee Kuehn, who was Waunakee’s Miss Main Street for the pavement dance in 1960, will pass on the crown to the 2014 Miss Main Street when construction is completed and the next pavement dance is planned.

    While construction crews continue replacing sidewalks along Main Street, one spot will be preserved. That square was installed with the villager’s first sidewalks and was stamped in 1907 with the contractor’s name. Norbert Buechner, who owns the home there, lobbied the village to preserve it.
