    Sept. 4, 1924

    The Waunakee baseball team defeated Oregon, the league leaders, there Sunday by a score of 4-2

    “Blaine has big lead over Hist,” is the headline on election news. Johnson trims Fjelstad for County Clerk, Dagget is leading in the sheriff’s race.

    The Waunakee Graded SChool was awarded the attendance banner for the eastern district of Dane County. The attendance was 98.1%.

    Aug. 30, 1934

    The Waunakee Concert Band will conclude the concert season Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    Mr. and Mrs. Francis Dunn are the proud parents of a son born on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

    J.A. Dick, formerly of Middleton, has purchased the City Meat Market from P.J. Uebersetzig and is now in possession.

    Sept. 1, 1949

    Miss Donna Marie Treinen and Joseph Kessenich were united in marriage in St. Patrick’s Church in Lodi on Aug. 11.

    Ray Diericks brought in a head of cabbage the other day that tipped the scales at 15 pounds.

    The Waunakee Baseball team will play Cross Plains here Sunday in the first game of the championship series.

    Sept. 2, 1954

    Fred W. Schumacher, 71, well-known Town of Westport farmer, died at a Madison hospital on Sunday.

    Mr. and Mrs. Harry Benson, Dane, announce the arrival of a son Methodist Hospital on Aug. 28.

    Mrs. Dean McKay, 48, daughter of Mrs. Clara Corcoran, died at a Madison hospital last week.

    Aug. 27, 1964

    On Friday evening, Aug. 14, 20 women took the initial step into religious life and became Novices in the Congregation of St. Agnes. Of the 20 Postulants who receive the white veil and their new names in religion, 16 are from Wisconsin. St. Mary Agnes became one of the 16. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ellickson, Waunakee.

    A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Karls, Dane, on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    Sept. 5, 1974

    Waunakee Community Schools report that 1,684 students are enrolled in grades K-12 for the 1974-75 school year.

    Steve Wernli is the AFS student for 1974-75 He is from Liestal in Switzerland.

    Wauna-A-Bowl defended the league crown for their second championship of the Slowpitch Softball League Thursday night at the park.

    Aug. 16, 1984

    The school boards from Waunakee and Lodi will hold a joint hearing on Aug. 30 in Lodi to discuss a proposal to transfer the Village of Dane to the Waunakee district.

    James C. Leonard is bidding for the Democratic candidate for the Dane County Register of Deeds. His opponent, Mahnke, is bidding for a fourth term in office.

    Students in the Waunakee Community School District reported for the opening session on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

    Aug. 4, 1994

    The Waunakee Village Board has voted to replace its staff of part-time inspectors with a full-time building inspector.

    Friends of Schumacher Farm have received a $1,557 grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission to support the farm’s fall harvest festival Sept. 11.

    David Giese, son of Richard and Carol Giese of Waunakee has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

    Saturday’s WaunaFest Run had the largest number of participants in 10 years with 769 entrants. Almost half of the runners were form Waunakee.

    Aug. 5, 2004

    Brian Grabarski will start the school year in Waunakee as an assistant principal at Waunakee High School.

    A Town of Westport resident attended the board meeting there to express his displeasure of the proliferation of business signs along Hwy. M.

    Longtime car dealer Russ Darrow stopped in Waunakee last eek to meet with local business owners as part of his campaign for the U.S. Senate.

    The Town of Westport dedicated a recently planted shagbark history tree on the south side of the Kennedy Administration Building to Diana Webb. Webb has been involved in town government since 1995, working on the plan commission and parks committee.

    Aug. 7, 2014

    A $30,000 loan from the Village of Waunakee will allow the owners of the Waunakee Alloy Corporation to clean up a small amount of mercury on the site. The village board approved the loan at their meeting Monday.

    Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney will face a challenge in the Aug. 12 primary election as Peter Endres of Waunakee has filed to run for that office, as well.

    Ben Ballweg, a Middleton native and son of Ken Ballweg and Diane Endres Ballweg, has published “Up the Amazon, Down the Andes,” an account of his travels through South America and the people he met along the way.

    Sheriff Dave Mahoney has confirmed that despite speculation, no site has been chosen for a future Dane County Jail.
