Monday's game against Norton Varsity American Legion was a heartbreaker for McCook MNB Seniors, as they lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat at Norton. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when Logan Willour lined out, scoring one run. McCook MNB Seniors lost despite out-hitting Norton nine to five. Simon Garcia led McCook MNB Seniors with three hits. McCook MNB Seniors got on the board in the top of the third inning after Quentin Terry singled, and Norton committed an error, each scoring one run. Norton jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after McCook MNB Seniors committed an error, Kai Cop reached on catcher's interference, and Collin Springer hit into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run. McCook MNB Seniors took the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Garcia doubled, and Terry was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Norton went back into the lead after Springer singled, and Willour lined out, each scoring one run. Trenton Raile opened the game for McCook MNB Seniors. They surrendered five hits and five runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Jaden Boyle led things off on the bump for Norton. They surrendered seven hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out none and walking one. Garcia led McCook MNB Seniors with one run batted in. They went 3-for-4 on the day. Terry collected two hits for McCook MNB Seniors in three at bats. Miles Pollmann stole two bases. Springer went 1-for-4 at the plate as the leadoff hitter led the team with two runs batted in. Ryan Prewo, Owen Hammond, Springer, Tyler Stewart, and Cop each collected one hit for Norton. McCook MNB Seniors will travel to Minden for their next game on Friday.
Kearney pool damaged in midst of heat wave, police search for vandal
Kearney, Neb. (KSNB) - A public pool is temporarily closed in order to fix damages and Kearney police are searching for who is responsible. The Harmon Pool fell victim to a vandalization Friday night, leaving members of the community out to dry in the summer heat. The pool’s pipes and other mechanical equipment were damaged in the incident, leading the pool to be drained in attempt to open it back up for the remainder of the season, according to Kearney Recreations Services Director Scott Hayden.
