Things are taking shape in the Central Wisconsin high school football scene.

This week's Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup between Wausau West and Stevens Point could have significant playoff implications. Both teams are 3-2, and with a win, Stevens Point could finish the weekend with the same conference record as the Warriors.

Another marquee battle will occur in the Big River conference as unbeaten New Richmond takes on unbeaten Rice Lake for first place on the road. Only one team can walk away undefeated and claim first place, and the division is still up for grabs with multiple programs within striking distance.

Over a calendar year has passed since the 2023 CWC-Large champions, Stratford, tasted defeat. The Tigers enter Week 6 riding a 17-game win streak and will defend their 5-0 perfect record against Colby, who is currently in fourth place at 2-3 with a 2-1 conference record. Edgar is the last program to beat the Tigers since Aug. 25, 2023.

As the season winds down, the playoff race in the Great Northern Conference has only tightened. Medford can distance themselves from the rest of the pack with a win over Wausau East at home. On the contrary, a victory from Wausau East could shake up the conference infrastructure with just a few weeks left in the season.

Either way, week six is poised to be a significant week for Central Wisconsin football.
