    Central Wisconsin's top HS prep performers for beginning of October

    The first week of October was another action-packed week for Central Wisconsin sports.

    Here is a look at the area's top prep performers from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6.

    End of Septembers top performers: A 154-yard passing,156-yard rushing game peaks top Central Wisconsin prep performances

    All coaches within Central Wisconsin are encouraged to submit their players' statistics for recognition as top performers or to be considered for the weekly Menke GMC Athlete of the Week poll, which opens every Monday morning and closes Thursday afternoon.

    Boys Soccer

    Cael Clark, Adams-Friendship: Clark scored two goals, with four shots on goal, in a draw against Wautoma/Wild Rose.

    Coy Brish, SPASH: Brish had a strong performance in the Panther's loss to Marshfield. The goalkeeper finished with eight saves and a 72 percent save percentage.

    SPASH, D.C. Everest on collision course: Perfect timing: SPASH, D.C. Everest to go to war for 1st place in WVC

    Ayden Kazda, Amherst: Kazda stuffed the stat sheet in a win over Northland Lutheran on Oct. 3, scoring two out of seven team goals and adding two assists.

    Xan Rodriguez, Columbus Catholic: Rodriguez led his team and scored two goals on Sept. 30 in a 7-0 win over Tri-County.

    Girls Volleyball

    Camille Sobolewski, Newman Catholic: Sobolewski completed a terrific performance against Assumption, notching 13 kills, three aces, and seven digs.

    Lexi Rice, Newman Catholic: Rice turned in 21 assists, five aces, and seven digs on Oct. 1.

    Week 7 football big winners: SPASH, Marshfield win big in Week 7; what we learned

    Chloe Timm, Spencer: Timm also had a solid all-around game on Oct.1, finishing with 23 assists, 4 kills, and 9 digs.

    Daelyn Rieck, Colby: Rieck finished with a serve receive rating of 2.42 and hit 0.407 with 14 kills on 27 attempts. Rieck also added seven digs and seven assists.

    Boys Cross Country

    Erik Grunenwald, Merrill: Grunenwald ran 19:25.3 at the Merrill invitational on Oct. 1 to earn first place.

    Josh Neilitz, Wausau West: Neilitz notched another first place at the Wausau City Meet, finishing with a 16:12.4 time on Oct. 3.

    Cree Defoe, Stratford: Defoe kept Stratford in the conversation, placing third at the Athens Invitational on Oct. 3.

    Week 8 HS Football preview: Week 8 High School Football Preview: Perfect records on the line in Central Wisconsin

    Luke Elden, Pacelli: Elden ran a 15:36.70 for first place at the High School Rosholt Invitational.

    Nathan Scheer, Columbus Catholic: Scheer ran a 17:00.0 to reach first place in the Edgar Invitational.

    Evan Fuchs, D.C. Everest: Fuchs was placed second at the Wausau City Meet, finishing at 16:24.5.

    Girls Cross Country

    Katie Merritt, D.C. Everest: Merritt placed first at the Wausau City Meet on Oct. 3 with a 20:20.0 time.

    Audrie Schmitt, Wausau East: Schmitt was shortly behind, finishing with a 21:01.5 time to finish in third place at the Wausau City Meet on Oct. 3.

    Kailyn Grossman, Pittsville: Grossman placed first with a 20:58.4 time at the Edgar Invitational on Oct. 1.

    Lucy Dolan, Assumption: Dolan outlasted everyone, placing first at the Athens Invitational on Oct. 3.

    Rory Salvesen, Wittenberg-Birnamwood: Salvesen placed third in the girls' portion of the High School Rosholt Invitational with a 20:02.26 time.

    Madlyn Hunter, Merrill: Hunter placed second at the Merrill Invitational on Oct. 1 with a 25:14.3 time.

    HS Football

    Dalton Darr, Pittsville: Darr rushed for 202 yards and four touchdowns in his team's 58-0 homecoming win against Assumption on Oct. 4.

    Johnny Matthews, SPASH: Matthews also snagged a 200-yard rushing game on Oct. 4. He finished with 222 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, two catches for 30 yards, and a receiving touchdown.

    Bryce Flaker, Pacelli: Flaker rushed for 149 yards on 20 carries. He scored a rushing touchdown and recorded five total tackles in Pacelli's 20-14 win over Rosholt.

    Colton Weiler, Auburndale: Weiler rushed for 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Auburndale's streak-snapping win over Abbotsford on Oct. 4.
