Heartland Rescue Ranch Holds Adoption Faces Influx of Animals After Fourth of July
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - July 4th-6th is a time of year when shelters and rescues experience a 30% to 60% increase in lost pets, according to Pet Amber Alerts. “We got 15 messages yesterday {Thursday} alone of people finding animals just randomly wandering in the street,” said Ashley Jackson, event and medical coordinator with Heartland Rescue Ranch. “But also people saying, ‘My dog is missing, they escaped the yard.’ Then also we had yesterday {Thursday} Chihuahuas being found, we had huskies being found. With the fireworks going off you have loud sounds. They jump the fences, they go underneath, they run out open doors, it is really common to see.”

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Authorities in Washington County said a Vernon man was arrested on gun and drug charges after a traffic stop. Washington County Sheriff’s Office officials said early Saturday morning, one of their deputies pulled over a vehicle on Spoolmill Road in Vernon. While standing outside of the car, the deputy reportedly smelled narcotics coming from inside it.
