Wausau Legion baseball drops slugfest to Wisconsin Rapids

WAUSAU – Wisconsin Rapids responded from a six-run fifth inning by Wausau with eight runs on its own and went on to defeat the Bulldogs 17-9 in a wild Wisconsin Valley Legion Conference baseball game Tuesday at Athletic Park.

Wisconsin Rapids scored five times in the top of the fifth only to see Wausau come back with six to tie the game at 8-8.

The Rangers (14-8, 9-3 WVLC) retaliated with an eight-run explosion in the sixth and Wausau (13-17, 3-8 WVLC) was unable to recover.

Oliver Turjaski had three hits and drove in two runs, and Zach Pagel added two hits for Wausau.

Wisconsin Rapids finished with 16 hits, including three each from Braden Lewis, Jake Dekarske and Landyn Freeman.

Wausau plays at Plover on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Memorial Field.
