WAUSAU – Wisconsin Rapids silenced the Wausau Woodchucks’ recently hot bats and pulled out a 6-2 win in Northwoods League baseball action Friday night at Athletic Park.

The Woodchucks are now 39-12 and 13-4 in the second half heading into a two-game home series against the Lakeshore Chinooks.

The Chucks had some struggles with starter Houston High for the Rafters as he went six innings and only allowed one hit. Max Soliz Jr. (Kansas) scored in the second after an error as Wausau trailed 3-1.

Sebastian Escobar (Central Methodist U) got his second pitching start for the Chucks. He allowed runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings and finished with six strikeouts in six innings pitched and left down 3-1.

After a three-run seventh for Wisconsin Rapids, the Chucks wouldn’t score again until the seventh when they finally got to face a new arm. Aiden Corn (Pasco-Hernando St. College) reached on a one-out single and later scored.

The Chucks would allow another run in the eighth as the Rafters hit well against Carsen Plumadore (Georgia Southwestern). He allowed five hits and a total of two earned runs with six strikeouts.

Saturday’s game against Lakeshore at Athletic Park begins at 6:05 p.m. The first 500 fans 21-and-older receive a free Miller Lite Hat.
