WAUSAU – The Wausau Woodchucks hit double digits in runs for the 10th time this season, and for the 10th time they were victorious, as they rolled past the Lakeshore Chinooks 15-6 to sweep a two-game home series on Sunday afternoon at Athletic Park.

Wausau is now 41-12 overall and 15-4 in the second half heading into the Northwoods League All-Star break.

The Chucks sent five pitchers to the mound. Evan Alwine (Florida International) made his first start of the season and went 4 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and two walks. David Morrissey (Eastern Florida State College) took over in relief for Alwine, pitching in the fifth inning. He allowed no runs and just two hits, striking out two. Morrissey also earned the win, bringing his season record to 2-0.

Grant Parr (Northeastern State University) and Hudson Hart (Oral Roberts) made their pitching debuts for the Chucks, both striking out one in one inning. Travis Lutz (Bradley) got the top of the ninth, striking out the side and securing the Chucks’ victory.

The Chucks got on the board early, thanks to a Max Soliz Jr. (Kansas) RBI single that scored Max Galvin (Miami). The Chucks would score one more in the fourth, with Hayden Christiansen (Xavier) earning an RBI from a sacrifice fly. The Chucks blew things open in the fifth, scoring four runs off walks and a single from Galvin.

The Chucks scored in every inning after, adding two on a home run from Vance Sheahan (USC-Upstate) in the sixth, his first long ball of the year. A five-run seventh keyed by a homer by Galvin and an RBI single by Jonah St. Antoine (Pittsburgh), and three bases-loaded walks.

Bryce Hubbard (Northwest Florida State College) knocked his seventh homer of the year in the bottom of the eighth, a solo shot to finish off the scoring for Wausau.

All-Star festivities in Mankato, Minn., begin with Soliz Jr. and Galvin taking part in the Home Run Challenge on Monday night. The All-Star Game will be played Tuesday.

The Woodchucks return to action Thursday at Athletic Park against the Green Bay Rockers. The first 500 fans will receive a bobblehead courtesy of Festival Foods or fans can purchase a bobblehead package to reserve for $15. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
