A resident at a farm in the town of Marathon is dead after being struck by a cow and pushed into a feed fence, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

Nieves Sanchez-Tezohua died the morning of July 16 at a farm on Ahrens Road. Police say Sanchez-Tezohua joined her boyfriend, who is a farm employee, while he was working in a barn and was struck by the cow. A veterinarian at the farm attempted lifesaving measures until deputies and paramedics arrived.

The woman ultimately was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Autopsy results showed Sanchez-Tezohua sustained severe heart and liver trauma, which was likely the cause of her death.

Sanchez-Tezohua had moved to the farm to join her boyfriend just weeks earlier after leaving a job in La Crosse, according to an incident report obtained by Wausau Pilot. She was originally from Veracruz, Mexico.

Police reviewed video from the barn that confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
