Schroeder goes deep as Rangers pummel Hornets

    2024-04-27

WAUSAUKEE — The Wausaukee High School baseball rode a big third inning to a 14-4, five-inning beatdown of Gillett/Suring in Marinette and Oconto Conference play on Friday.

The Rangers led 2-1 after two innings but broke matters wide open with a nine-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth that the Hornets were unable to recover from.

Wausaukee collected three times as many hits (12) as Gillett/Suring (4), which helped the Rangers overcome a mistake-filled performance that saw six errors committed.

Conner Schroeder belted a home run for Wausaukee as part of his 2-for-4 day at the plate. Luke Smith added a pair of base knocks, including a triple, and recorded two stolen bases.

Brady Kristof tallied a pair of base knocks, one of which was a double, for the Hornets. Cody Schrank pitched in two RBIs and added a stolen base.

Callahan Betts picked up the win on the mound after giving up a single hit and an unearned run through three innings pitched, striking out four and walking five.

Braydn Kiedrowski was the losing pitcher with nine hits, 10 runs, all earned, two walks and four strikeouts in two-and-two-thirds innings of work.
