Wausaukee notches non-conference win over Stephenson

    2024-05-19

WAUSAUKEE — Hits were plentiful for the Wausaukee High School baseball team in a 10-2 drubbing of Stephenson in non-conference action on Friday.

The Rangers belted out four times as many base knocks as the Eagles, with Wausaukee collecting 12 hits while Stephenson mustered only three.

Wausaukee’s offense was hot from the opening pitch, as the Rangers plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning and another three in the second to build a 5-0 lead.

Stephenson cut into its deficit with a run in the top of the fourth but the Rangers retaliated with three-run barrage in their half of the frame to seize an 8-1 advantage.

The Eagles plated another run in the top of the fifth but were unable to get any closer after Wausaukee tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the inning.

Ryan Wojcik did the rest, pitching the final two innings without allowing a hit, to secure the win for Wausaukee.

Christian Deschane, Luke Smith, Robby Murray and Seth Kraemer enjoyed two-hit afternoon for the Rangers. Conner Schroeder’s lone hit was a triple, while Gavin Thomson, Callahan Betts and Kayden Suennen all had singles.

Suennen was the winning pitcher with three hits, two runs (one earned) and three strikeouts through five innings.

Stephenson did not report any stats at press time.
