At least three people were injured Monday in two separate multi-vehicle crashes on Hwy. 8, with one victim airlifted from the scene.

The first crash was reported at about 10:15 a.m. July 8 in Lincoln County at Hwy. 8 and Honey Road in the town of Wilson, east of Tripoli. The second crash happened a short time later on the same highway. Both crashes involved three vehicles.

In the first crash, a 34-year-old Tomahawk man was slowing to make a left turn onto Honey Road when a 26-year-old Hartford man following him failed to slow, rear-ending the vehicle. The first vehicle was pushed into the eastbound lane of traffic and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 52-year-old Medford woman, Lincoln County officials said.

One patient was airlifted to Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Two other victims were transported via ambulance to Aspirus Tomahawk hospital, while a third driver was not injured in the crash. Inattentive driving is a likely primary factor in the first crash, Lincoln County officials said.

The second crash was reported about 500 yards to the east on Hwy. 8 and was handled by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department. Oneida County officials have not yet released details.

Hwy. 8 was closed to traffic for nearly three hours but has since reopened. No names have been released.

The Pilot often relies on reports from police officials in control of a crime, fire or crash scene during a breaking news event. While these initial reports are valuable to readers, they also can be incomplete and even inaccurate. We let readers know what we can and can’t confirm, as well as when and how we received our information. Then we work to aggressively gather a wider range of perspectives and to verify the information through public records, interviews, photos and videos, all of which are verified before publishing.
