    Wausau Woodchucks drop extra-inning affair at Kenosha

    KENOSHA – The Wausau Woodchucks’ five-game winning streak came to an end with a 5-4 loss to the Kenosha Kingfish on Friday night at Simmons Field.

    Eli Frank (Wisconsin-Whitewater) was given the nod to start on the mound for the first time this season for Wausau. He went six innings, allowing three runs and three hits with three. He was replaced by Garrett Lott (Bossier Parish Community College). Lott finished out the game, pitching three full innings with five strikeouts and suffered the loss as he surrendered a run in the 10th.

    The Chucks found themselves down by a run early, but in the top of the third tied the game via a Samuel Fischer (Florida International) RBI single. Wausau took a 2-1 lead after another RBI single by Max Soliz Jr. (Kansas) In the top of the fourth.

    After Kenosha grabbed a 3-2 advantage in the sixth, Max Galvin (Miami) and Vance Sheahan (South Carolina-Upstate) both walked with the bases loaded in the seventh, putting Wausau on top 4-3.

    Kenosha tied it in the bottom of the seventh and the 4-4 score held until the 10th when the Kingfish pushed across the winning run on a walk-off single by Michael Perazza.

    The Chucks (49-19, 23-11 second half) will play at Kenosha again on Saturday for their last regular-season game. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. The Northwoods League playoffs begin on Sunday. The Woodchucks, the first half champion of the Great Lakes West Division, will host a home game on either Sunday or Monday against the Madison Mallards (50-19), who won the second half title. Home field advantage for the best-of-3 series will be determined by the outcome of the Woodchucks’ game on Saturday.
