A 71-year-old bicyclist died Tuesday after she was struck by a vehicle in Minocqua, according to a police department release.

The crash was reported at about 1 p.m. Tuesday just south of the intersection of Hwy. 51 and Timber Ridge Road. A 20-year-old driver was also injured in the crash.

The bicyclist, a woman from Oconomowoc, died at the scene. The vehicle driver was transported to Howard Young Medical Center, officials said.

A portion of Hwy. 51 was shut down after the crash. As of 4:30 p.m., southbound traffic continued to be detoured into the northbound lane, according to the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation.

No names have been released and the crash is under investigation.

The Pilot often relies on reports from police officials in control of a crime, fire or crash scene during a breaking news event. While these initial reports are valuable to readers, they also can be incomplete and even inaccurate. We let readers know what we can and can’t confirm, as well as when and how we received our information. Then we work to aggressively gather a wider range of perspectives and to verify the information through public records, interviews, photos and videos, all of which are verified before publishing.
