Police have identified the man killed early Thursday in a single-vehicle Adams County crash as 35-year-old Joseph Artuso, of Arkdale.

The crash was reported at about 5 a.m. Aug. 22 on County Hwy. Z near Badger Avenue. Police say Artuso lost control of his Toyota Camry and veered off the roadway and into a ditch before striking a culvert. The vehicle overturned, with Artuso inside, according to an Adams County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Arturo died at the scene, said Adams County Sheriff Brent York. Speed and alcohol are among the factors cited in the crash. Police say Arturo was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Pilot often relies on reports from police officials in control of a crime, fire or crash scene during a breaking news event. While these initial reports are valuable to readers, they also can be incomplete and even inaccurate. We let readers know what we can and can’t confirm, as well as when and how we received our information. Then we work to aggressively gather a wider range of perspectives and to verify the information through public records, interviews, photos and videos, all of which are verified before publishing.
