Seven people were injured Sunday in a multi-vehicle crash between Tomahawk and Minocqua during a busy Labor Day weekend in the northwoods, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department.

The three-vehicle crash was reported just before 2 p.m. Sept. 1 on Hwy. 51 at the intersection of County Hwy. K and Swamp Lake Road.

Police say the driver of a northbound Chevrolet Equinox was stopped in the lane of traffic and waiting to turn onto Swamp Lake Road when northbound GMC Yukon struck the vehicle from behind, pushing it into the southbound lane.

A southbound F-15 struck the Equinox and rolled into the west ditch, police said.

There were four injured people in the Equinox, one of whom was transported by med-flight from the scene to Apirus Hospital in Wausau. Another patient was transported to Aspirus Hospital in Tomahawk, and later transported again by med-flight to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. A third injured person was taken to Aspirus in Tomahawk. The fourth injured person was transported to Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.

There was one injured person in the F-150 who was not medically transported.

There were two injured people in the Yukon, one of whom was transported to Apirus Hospital in Rhinelander. The second victim in the Yukon was not medically transported.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Oneida County Ambulance, Cassian Fire Department, Nokomis First Responders and Fire Department, and MEDEVAC helicopter.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is completing the crash investigation. No names have been released and the current conditions of the crash victims has not been stated.
