WAUSAU – The Wausau Curling Club will conduct Learn to Curl sessions Oct. 12 and 19 at the Wausau Curling Center, 1920 Curling Way.

Each session will run from 9 a.m. until about noon. Check-in time both days is 8:30 a.m.

“It’s a great way to introduce this fun and exciting winter sport to new people,” said Tucker Diedrich, Learn to Curl coordinator for the club.

During these sessions, new curlers will learn about the history and strategy of the game and have time on the ice to learn how to deliver and sweep the curling stones. Instruction will be available for youngsters, as well as teens and adults.

Those who have difficulty sliding on the ice and getting up can learn the game using a curling push-stick.

Instructors will provide equipment and step-by-step instructions. You’ll be ready to curl after just one day. Participants should bring a separate pair of clean, rubber-soled shoes to wear on the ice, and dress in layers and loose-fitting trousers or pants. Street shoes are not allowed on the ice.

Participants will also get a tour of the local curling center.

The fee for the Learn to Curl events is $10. Pre-registration is required. Contact Diedrich at 715-573-1959 or at [email protected]. You can also register on the club’s website, www.wausaucurling.org.
