Wausau East/West’s Schlindwein wraps up overall individual WVC girls golf title

MARSHFIELD – Wausau East/West’s Talia Schlindwein wrapped up her second-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference girls golf title with a second-place finish at the seventh and final leg of the conference tournament series on Tuesday at Marshfield Country Club.

Schlindwein shot a 40 to finish second behind meet medalist Lexxi Oertel of Marshfield to earn the overall season title. Schlindwein won three of the seven meets this season.

Marshfield finished with a team score of 183 to edge Wausau East/West by a stroke and claimed first place for the sixth time and wrapped up its first WVC championship. Wausau East/West had won the last two.

Ella Wendling of Wausau East/West and Ella Szekeress of D.C. Everest finished in a six-way tie for third with 45s, and Sophia Wagman placed ninth as well for the Evergreens with a 46. D.C. Everest placed fourth with a score of 200.

Wausau East/West and D.C. Everest will compete at a WIAA Division 1 regional on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Ledgeview Golf Course in De Pere. The top four teams and top four individuals not on the qualifying teams, move on to a D-1 sectional at Thornberry Creek Golf Course in Green Bay on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The top two teams and top three individual finishers not on the qualifying teams will qualify for the 2024 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament at University Ridge Golf Club in Madison on Oct. 14-15.
