WAUSAU – The Center for the Visual Arts will celebrate this week two of its newest exhibits.

A public reception and poetry reading from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 is an official event during the Central Wisconsin Book Festival, and is free and open to the public. The CVA is at 427 N. Fourth St.

“Gathering” is featured in the Caroline S. Mark Gallery, and highlights poetry that was specifically written to pair with a particular piece of artwork.

Poets will read their displayed poem at 6:30 p.m. during the reception. The Bookshop Coop will also be featured in the CVA Gift Shop with an assortment of books for sale.

Solo exhibit “Then and Now” is on view in the Vault Gallery and features the work of Duachaka Her. This exhibit was selected through a new guest curation program at the CVA that focuses on giving underrepresented communities a platform to curate works of art and be compensated for their

work and programming. Her’s work explores memories and life transitions.

Her will be available to chat with attendees about her art, and she will return to the CVA for a comic book workshop on Oct. 19. The workshop will cost $25 and open to anyone ages 13 and older. More details can be found at www.cvawausau.org/education.
