    Three local athletes earn sectional berths at WIAA Division 1 girls golf regional

    DE PERE – Wausau East/West’s Talia Schlindwein and Annika Creisher, and D.C. Everest’s Ella Szekeress earned individual qualifying berths at next week’s sectional with top performances at a WIAA Division 1 girls golf regional on Wednesday at Ledgeview Golf Course.

    The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams move on to sectionals, which will be played Tuesday at Thornberry Creek Golf Course in Green Bay.

    Bay Port (359), De Pere (361), Green Bay Preble (393) and Green Bay Notre Dame (408) earned the four team spots, with Wausau East/West just missing out as it finished fifth with a 411. D.C. Everest was seventh with a 426.

    Payton Dudra of Bay Port, Lucy Kim of De Pere and Emma Cunningham of Green Bay Preble tied for first place individually with 86s.

    Schlindwein was fifth with an 88, Szekeress shot a 94 to take 10th, and Creisher tied for 13th with a 97 to earn three of the four individual sectional spots. Grace Melzer of Pulaski snagged the other with a 103.

    The top two teams and top three individuals not on the qualifying teams at the sectional move on to the 2024 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament, which will be held Oct. 14-15 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
