RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond artist has won a CVS Health national contest for her journal designs, which will be sold in more than 6,700 stores.

Richmond artist, Ashley Briggs, was one of four CVS Health professionals selected nationally to have their artwork highlighted on the covers of journals to be sold at over 6,700 CVS Pharmacy stores nationwide and CVS.com.

According to CVS, the winner was inspired by her own mental health and wellness journey and designed the journals to bring awareness of the influence that art and journaling on one’s daily lifestyle.

The journal is called “Be Kind to Your Mind” and is said to depict her as an Afro-Latina woman and the connection she has to the James River floodwall where she feels a sense of peace of mind and tranquility.

“I hope this piece can inspire others to be kind to their mind,” Briggs said. “I hope it’s something they love.”

Briggs started working for Aetna in 2016, which is a CVS Health company, and is now a Senior Representative with CVS Health. In 2020, she began creating art learning from online tutorials and doing digital drawings on her tablet.

She has created designs for art prints, t-shirts and tote bags that were featured in two stores in Richmond, which led to her being encouraged by a colleague to enter the company’s contest.

Her work was selected from more than 75 submitted designs by a panel of colleague judges. The four winning artist received a cash reward for participating.
